How It All Began
It started with our Albino Quaker Parrot, Cinnamon. We noticed she seemed uncomfortable on her standard dowel perches, constantly shifting her feet and avoiding certain spots in her cage.
After researching, we discovered that birds in the wild perch on branches of varying diameters, textures, and shapes. This variety exercises their feet and prevents the pressure sores that come from uniform, smooth perches. Plastic and treated wood perches were even worse — causing bacterial infections, chemical exposure, and chronic foot damage.
Living in Upstate New York, we were surrounded by natural apple orchards and wild grapevine forests. We started hand-cutting perches from these safe, natural trees, and Cinnamon's transformation was remarkable. She became more active, more comfortable, and clearly happier on her natural wood perches.
That's when The Happy Perch was born. Today, every perch we sell is still homemade, hand-cut from natural safe wood trees in Upstate New York, with zero chemicals and stainless steel mounting hardware included.
